Throw a stone

You throw a stone into the slime. It just misses the crown and lands in the pool with a splat. There is a short pause, and then a monster bursts out of the pool. It has eight legs, a huge head, and is dripping with green yucky gloop. It’s a slime-o-pus!

You’ve never seen a slime-o-pus before, but you’ve seen videos about them on YouTube. They live in the smelliest, filthiest underground pools in the dungeon, and leap out to attack adventurers that pass by. This one must have gotten hold of a crown somehow and is using it as bait to lure heroes close enough to catch.

The Slime-o-pus starts to slump towards you, pulling itself along the ground with its’ tentacles. It looks very hungry and you are pretty sure it wants to have you for its’ dinner! Just as you’re about to turn round and run you hear some voices coming from deeper in the dungeon.

“No, I don’t know where I left it! If I knew that then I’d not have lost it in the first place, you dunderhead!”

Down the tunnel comes a very angry looking goblin dressed in fine robes and a cape. He is shouting at a timid looking goblin next to it.

“What’s the point of being King of the Goblins unless I have a crown!” he says. “That’s the only thing that makes the job worth doing. Without a crown it’d just be going to zoom meetings and doing paperwork all day. No one wants to live like that! I must….”

The Goblin King stops talking as he sees the scary looking Slime-o-pus in the middle of the tunnel, holding his crown.

“Actually”, the Goblin King says with a tremor in his voice, “I’m a bit bored of crowns now. I’ve heard baseball caps are the fashionable thing for Kings to wear these days. Or maybe a bobble hat, they can be nice too.”

The Goblin King and his servant turn around run off down the corridor, screaming in terror. The Slime-o-pus chases after them, leaving you and your friend on your own.

Your friend tells you that they need to go home, as they need to get ready to go to a birthday party later today. You say goodbye and thank them for their help, then carry on with your exploration of the dungeon.

There’s a tunnel ahead that looks rather interesting. Its’ walls are glittering, and you’re pretty sure you hear someone singing down there. It’s certainly worth a closer look.
